The inclusion of the crown alludes to the theological significance that the author accords the martyrdoms recorded in this volume. In the inset at the bottom-half of the image, Christians undergo various forms of torture at the hands of their persecutors. The Latin motto at the bottom of the inset means, “Through difficulties to honors” .
