Image Title: Frontispiece Border
Description: This frontispiece features a collection of images from the Old and New Testaments. At the base, two women flank an inscription surrounded by the four figures representing the Gospel writers (winged ox, lion, eagle, and man). In the center, a lamb is sacrificed as a burnt offering while figures from the Old Testament bracket the altar (Aaron and Abraham on the left and possibly King David and King Solomon on the right). At the head, two women flank an image of the Trinity, which appears in the smoke made by the offering. In the background are scenes from the Old Testament, such as Moses receiving the Ten Commandments and Cain slaying Abel. Engraved by Matthaeus Merian (1593-1650).
