Description: This image depicts the ambush of Jonathan Maccabeus and his men in the city of Ptolemais. In the bottom-left corner the walls of Jerusalem are rebuilt. To the left the Maccabeans renew their alliance with Sparta. In the top-left the head and right-hand of Nicanor is hung from the walls of Jerusalem. In the top-right Jonathan Maccabaeus takes revenge on the sons of Jambri of Medaba for their killing of John Maccabeaus, the brother of Jonathan. Jonathan and his follows ambush the sons of Jambri during a wedding celebration. To the right Jonathan Maccabeus is honored by Alexander I Balas, the King of the Seleucid Empire (r. 150-146 BCE).
