Description: An image of Escorial Palace, a residence of the kings of Spain. The palace was built by King Philip II of Spain in commemoration of his victory over King Henry II of France at the battle of St. Quentin. Since the battle took place on the feat day of Saint Lawrence, Philip ordered that the palace be laid out like a gridiron, the attribute and instrument of martyrdom of Saint Lawrence.
