Image Title: Personal Arms of Wiprecht von Groitzsch

Description: This enwreathed shield contains the composite arms of legendary Saxon noble Wiprecht von Groitzsch (d. 1124). As his legend notes, Wiprecht was a warring man; each of the shield’s five regions symbolizes part of the domain he assembled: the bull represents Lusatia; the imperial eagle and horizontal stripes, Magdeburg; the galloping horse in the center, the county of Groitzsch; the two-color field perhaps represents Leisnig; and finally, the swan represents Zwickau.
