Image Title: Papal and English Royal Coins

Description: This page contains various écus from European states before presenting groups of papal coins and coins featuring English monarchs. The first coin features Ercole II d'Este (1508-1559), Duke of Ferrara, and his coat of arms. The next coin, a crown of Genoa, honors Crusader King Conrad III of Germany (r. 1138-1152), who ruled Italy for a time. The next two coins are of Lucca, Italy; they feature the name of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and a portrait of the Holy Face of Lucca. Finally, the final écu of this first assorted group bears the name and arms of King Henry II of Navarre (r. 1517-1555). The group of papal crowns begins with two minted under Pope Paul III (r. 1534-1549). The page's right column begins with another crown of Paul III, this one featuring the motto (BONONIA DOCET) and arms of Bologna. The final papal crown is a transitional piece, containing both Paul III's arms and the arms of his successor, Julius III (r. 1550-1555). The final four coins on the page display the arms of English kings Edward VI (r. 1547-1553) and Henry VIII (r. 1509-1547), along with a portrait or a crest.
