Image Title: French Coins and the English Salute
Description: A collection of French coins, most of which bear the names of sixteenth-century French kings: Francis I (r. 1515-1547), Henry II (r. 1547-1559), and Charles IX (r. 1560-1574). The only exception is the gold salute (the uppermost coin on the left side); it was issued by English kings Henry V (r. 1413-22) and Henry VI (r. 1422-61, 70-71) during the Hundred Years' War. The salute features Mary behind the shield of France, and the angel of the Annunciation standing behind the shield of Henry V, reading from an open scroll.
