Description: This image comes from “Trophaeum Vitae Solitariae,” dated 1598, bound with “Solitudo, sive, Vitae patrum eremicolarum”. The hermit saint Joannicius the Great (8th-9th centuries) was born in Bithinia and served in the army before becoming a monk. The artist responsible for the design was Maarten De Vos and the engraver was Johannes Sadeler I (Jan Sadeler), whose names are at the lower left.
