Description: Saint Malchus or Malchion of Syria (fourth century) kneels in prayer with his dog, while behind him a flock of sheep graze and in his hand is a shepherd’s crook, alluding to the tradition that he had been a shepherd. The artist responsible for the design was Maarten De Vos, but the engraving for the volume was done by Johannes Sadeler I (Jan Sadeler) and Raphael Sadeler I, whose surname is at the lower right.
