Description: This engraving illustrates a rite performed after the death of certain people in public positions of authority such as cardinals, bishops and rulers. Five bishops stand around the bier, one at each corner and one at the head. An acolyte stands at the feet of the dead bishop with the processional cross, while a series of prayers are said. The image is flanked by a border containing angels, or putti, suspended over the heads of soldiers.
