Image Title: The Bestowal of the Pallium
Description: The ceremony of bestowal of the pallium must take place in the new bishop’s own diocese. The pallium is a long woolen cloth embroidered with six small black crosses sent to the bishop by the pope. Here the new bishop kneels before the presiding bishop, who places the pallium over his chasuble, or priestly vestment. The image is flanked by a border containing angels, or putti, holding flowers.
