Description: This historiated title-page border is based on the Prague version of Lucas Cranach the Elder’s painting, “Law and Gospel” (or “Sin and Redemption”). The tree at the center is dead on the left but alive on the right, representing Law and Gospel, respectively, and on the side of each is a cluster of illustrative images. The woodcut was not carved in reverse, and so the printed image is reversed to become “Gospel and Law”.
