Newspapers
The Pitts Library receives more than 60 newspapers. Our special strengths are Methodist conference newspapers and Christian newspapers from sub-Saharan Africa. We also receive newspapers from other Christian denominations and a selection of general interest and academic newspapers, including The New York Times, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Retention Policy:
- International newspapers : Pitts retains the most recent 3 years of newspapers published monthly or less often, and the most recent 2 years published biweekly or more frequently. This does not include African newspapers, which are retained until another suitable preservation option is provided.
- National newspapers (non-Methodist) : Pitts retains the most recent year only. For newspapers published daily, Pitts retains the most recent week only.
- Methodist and African newspapers are retained long-term if not available on microfilm. Georgia denominational newspapers are retained if not collected elsewhere. Older editions of these items are kept in archival boxes.
