African Postcard Collection
The Pitts Theology Library African Postcard Collection (MSS 353) depicts missionary activity in Africa mostly during the 1930s. The images largely capture the people and cathedrals of former French and Belgian African colonies. Of particular archival significance, on the back of several of the postcards are handwritten inscriptions, which add a level of personal context to the printed text. The handwritten inscriptions and the printed text are most usually French, Dutch, or Afrikaans. A portion of the collection has been digitized and are located on the Pitts Theology Library Digital Image Archive.
