Historical Note

Hyatt Memorial church was founded in 1955 to serve the Gate City congregation that was displaced when the owners of the meeting building evicted the church.  After this experience, the congregation was eager for its own building.  In November 1956, a building and property were acquired.  A campaign was begun to raise funds to refurbish the property.  A new building was constructed, opened and consecrated in March 1958.  The church was closed in December 1987, and the property was sold with proceeds to be used for new church development.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of financial and membership records.  Financial records include: a notebook detailing fundraising for the building, deed and mortgage information, church insurance policies, and detailed information on giving, budgets, and other financial concerns.  Membership data includes a church register (which has only membership information) and the 1987 report to annual conference detailing the decline of the congregation.  There is also some correspondence and papers related to the organ.
