 Biographical Note

Robert Henry Robb was born on February 25, 1852 in Tyrone County, Ireland. He immigrated to the United States at the age of eighteen. In 1875, he joined the Georgia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church and served as a circuit rider in the North Georgia mountains.

Robb retired from the active ministry after 42 years of service. During this time, he represented the Georgia Conference at the 1900 General Conference, served on the Methodist Episcopal Church’s Board of Missions for four years, and was a member of the 1891 Ecumenical Conference on Methodism. After retirement, he spent several years as the financial agent for the Conference Claimants Endowment Fund of the Georgia Conference. At his final annual conference, he voted in favor of the Plan of Methodist Union which eventually united the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and the Methodist Protestant Church.

Robb was the author of A Biographical Sketch of Rev. James Lowry Fowler: The Hero of the Reorganization in Georgia, Character Sketches: Some Early Official Members of the Georgia Conference, Methodist Episcopal Church, and A Memorial Tribute to Rev. James Mitchell, D.D.

Robert Henry Robb died in Atlanta on March 10, 1937. He was buried in Atlanta’s West View Cemetery. His only child, James Lindsey Robb, was a president of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee.
