Biographical Note

William Johnson Everett was born on November 18, 1940 in Washington, D.C.  He received his B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1962 and a B.D. from Yale Divinity School in 1965.  He completed his academic education at Harvard University where he received his Ph.D. in 1970.  From 1969 to 1984, Everett was a professor of theology and social science at St. Francis Seminary.  From 1985 to 1995, he was professor of ethics and ecclesiology at Candler School of Theology.  Everett moved to Andover Newton School of Theology in 1995 where he was the professor of Christian social ethics until his retirement in 2001.  Everett’s foci of study throughout his life has been religion, society, ethics, and ecclesiology.  


 Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of publications written by Everett between 1966 and 1987 primarily regarding ethics and ecclesiology.  Most of the publications are articles, although there is one book which was jointly written with the Lutheran World Federation.  Also included in the collection is a list of Everett’s publications.
