Ambrose Cartwright was an English Protestant with a wife and one child
at the time of this composition. No further information is known.
This manuscript consists of three pages of devotional exercises handwritten
in ink on paper. The piece is divided into three sections: "Private
Devotion," "Days of Humiliation," and "Publick [sic] Devotion." The
first section contains fourteen prayers to be said throughout each day.
The second section contains two prayers to be recited twice weekly in repentance
for sins. The last section contains two prayers for the Sabbath.
There are eighteen prayers in all, with instructions in the margin as to
when they are to be recited.
