Thomas Ogle, Jr. resided in Philadelphia from 1883 to 1894.  He received his license to preach in 1883 from the Philadelphia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.  Ogle was made a Deacon in 1892.  In 1894 he moved to Parrysville, Pennsylvania, and was made an Elder.  The dates of his birth and death are unknown.

This collection consists of one hymn book, two letters, and six post cards.  The hymn book, "Ogle's Praise Hymns and Revivalist," is forty-eight pages in length and was published by John J. Hood of Philadelphia in 1883.  It is a compilation of seventy-five hymns organized by Ogle.  There are numerous revisions in pencil by Ogle noting changes to be made for the next edition.  The letters date from December 1883 and are from the hymn writers John R. Sweney (1837-1899) and William James Kirkpatrick (1838-1921), granting Ogle permission to publish selected hymns in an upcoming compilation.  The post cards date from September and October of 1887.  Five are from hymn writers and the publisher, Biglow and Main of New York, granting Ogle permission to publish selected hymns.  Correspondents include Edmund Simon Lorenz (1854-1942), Jeremiah Eames Rankin (1828-1904), and George C. Stebbins (1846-1945).  The last post card is from Ogle to his publisher, John J. Hood, explaining changes to be made to the next hymnal.
