Biographical Note

Edward Cody Wilson was born August 31, 1891 in Lake City, Florida.  He was the second of three children born to Edward Musce Wilson and Stephen Leona Golden.  His siblings were Effie Leona and George Niblack.  Stephen Leona died in 1895 and the family relocated to Jasper, Florida.   In 1903 Edward Musce married Deula Barron Browne.

E.C. Wilson owned a hardware store before joining the Board of Directors and Finance Committee of the Bank of Jasper.  He joined the First Methodist Church of Jasper in 1911 and held several lay positions including Secretary and Treasurer of the Board of Stewards and Sunday School.  In 1915 E.C. married Estelle Patterson.

Wilson studied one year at the Candler School of Theology, receiving a license to preach in 1918 in the Gainesville District of the Florida Conference.  This began a forty-six year career in the Methodist Church, including both the Florida and North Georgia Conferences.  Reverend Wilson served fifteen charges during his career: Boca Grande, Florida (1918-1919); Jenkinsburg, Georgia (1919-1922); Mount Vernon in Atlanta, Georgia (1922-1923); Canton Methodist Church in Ball Ground, Georgia (1923-1926); Warrenton, Georgia (1926-1928); Forsyth, Georgia (1928-1930); Saint John Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia (1930-1935); Trinity-on-the-Hill Methodist Church in Augusta, Georgia (1935-1939); Hapeville, Georgia (1939-1940); First Methodist Church in East Point, Georgia (1940-1945); Saint Paul Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia (1945-1950); Cascade Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia (1950-1952); Thomson, Georgia (1952-1953); Toccoa, Georgia (1953-1954); Jones Memorial Methodist Church in Forest Park, Georgia (1954-1955).  He returned to the First Methodist Church in East Point to serve as Assistant Pastor (1955-1964).  Reverend Wilson retired from active service in June 1964.  He died on October 23, 1964 after a short illness.

Estelle Patterson was born in 1891 in Jasper, Florida.  She had two brothers, A. Scott and Vivian P., who served as missionaries abroad.  A. Scott was a Baptist missionary in Legos, Nigeria and Vivan P. was a Methodist missionary and physician serving in China for 18 years.  After her husband's death Estelle remained active in church work.  She died on July 4, 1972 as the result of a second heart attack.  Rev. and Mrs. Wilson had no children.

Scope and Content Note
The scrapbook consists of photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and ephemera documenting the life of Rev. and Mrs. Wilson.  The bulk of the material deals with E.C.'s ministerial career, documenting all his assignments.  Items range from 1905 report cards for Rev. Wilson to letters of condolence after his death.  Later entries document Mrs. Wilson's work in Methodist organizations as well as her attendance at various ceremonies on behalf of her husband.  The last page of the scrapbook is a copy of Mrs. Wilson's obituary.
