"Spiritual railway" consists of two nineteenth century poems by the
American poet J. Adams. Both poems bear the principal title, "The
spiritual railway" while each has its own subtitle-one being called "The
upward line," the other, "The downward line." "The upward line" can
also be found appended to some editions of Nathaniel Hawthorne's short
story "The celestial railroad."
