CITATION: James Smith Letter, MSS 177, Archives and Manuscripts Dept., Pitts Theology Library, Emory University.
James Smith was a British scholar who wrote about the New Testament and the Gospels. He lived from 1782-1867.
This letter dated August 3, 1866 was written by James Smith to a Dr.
Tregelles, probably the Biblical scholar Samuel Prideaux Tregelles.
In this letter, a response to an earlier letter from Tregelles, Smith discusses
his health, Tregelles' writing, and the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke.
Smith lastly refers to the work of another Biblical scholar, Dr. Cureton,
who he refers to as an authority on Syria. This person is probably
William Cureton.
