Biographical Note

 Joshua Nichols Glenn was born on July 10, 1799 in Jackson County, Georgia.  He joined the South Carolina Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1821 and preached in Georgia until 1823.  At that time Glenn was sent to the St. Augustine Mission, becoming the first Methodist preacher to be appointed to East Florida.  He returned to Georgia in 1824 and preached within South Carolina and Georgia Conferences until his death in Rockdale County, Georgia on August 16, 1879.


Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of reproductions of "A Memorandum or Journal of the first part of my life up to the twenty-third year of my age" by Rev. Joshua Nichols Glenn.  The journal contains Glenn's recollections from his birth through his appointment to the St. Augustine Mission.  It also contains records of Glenn's ministry in Georgia and Florida including baptisms, sermons, and expenses.

The journal is reproduced on one reel of microfilm and within one bound volume of photocopies made from the microfilm.  The original is held by the Glenn family.
