Biographical Note

Elbert B. Stone was a former student at Emory University's School of Theology. His papers reveal that he matriculated from 1916 to 1919, graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He returned to his home in Kentucky and remained there until his death on December 20, 1974.


Scope and Content Note

The scope of the papers of Elbert B. Stone (1911-1973) is limited mainly to his class work in the School of Theology. The content of his class notes reveal the course of study at Candler School of Theology in 1916 t0 1919. The collection consists of correspondence, 1972-1973; literary works by Stone, 1911-1919 and printed materials, 1953 and 1969. The literary works, mostly handwritten, include research notes, n.d.; class papers, ca.1918; examinations, 1911; sermons, essays, class notes, 1916-1919; and miscellaneous notes, 1932. The largest part consists of Stone's class notes. These records will provide a rich source of information for comparative studies of curriculum at the School of Theology in the early 1900's.
